This week Dudley had a visit from David Davis, Secretary of State for leaving the EU. We went for a tour of the facilities at Thomas Dudley Ltd. and discussed the implications of the Brexit negotiations for this major local employer with a workforce of around 400.
After one to one discussions with Jason, one of the joint Managing Directors, we met a number of staff, apprentices and graduate trainees. I was particularly impressed by the company's approach to skills and developing local employees into to well paid, high quality jobs and their ongoing investment to secure long term growth in competitive World markets.
I want to work with the many, often small, manufacturing businesses we have in Dudley to take full advantage of the new and growing export markets opening up. This will mean that local people can get into better and higher paid jobs, breathing new life into our Town and bringing prosperity and security to many of our residents who have felt left behind in the past.
